The McCaffrey Group, a leading
third-generation family homebuilder that specializes in community
development, residential construction, realty, and mortgage brokerage in
California’s Central Valley, was honored as the top family business in
the Institute for Family Business’s California Family Business Award
program. The award has a rigorous selection process – this year there
were 115 nominations, and the top 20 businesses were interviewed by
local judges and then a panel of out-of-state judges determined the
winner of the award.
“We are honored to be recognized with this prestigious award and
commend the efforts of the Institute for Family Business for preserving
the family business model and recognizing its economic impact on our
region,” said Brent McCaffrey, president and third-generation leader of
The McCaffrey Group.
The Institute for Family Business is hosted by the Craig School of
Business at Fresno State University to support the family business model
by providing a forum for exchanging ideas, research findings, and
information about issues that are unique to family businesses.
The McCaffrey Group was recognized for its company culture where all
leaders are supported to thrive, as well as their smooth transition to
third-generation leadership and vision. The McCaffrey Group was also
selected because of its commitment to giving back to the community with a
particular focus on children and education.
A joint California Legislature resolution led by the Honorable Tom
Berryhill, 8th Senatorial District, reads: “By contributing to the
success and sustainability of the community in which it does business,
The McCaffrey Group enhances the quality of life for community residents
and instills a great sense of pride in individuals who are associated
with it.”
Beneficiaries of The McCaffrey Group’s extensive charitable work
include: The Central Valley Chapter of The American Heart Association,
local medical centers,
veteran organizations, area schools, and college scholarships for area
high school students. They also established a $25,000 McCaffrey-Knowlton
Scholarship at Fresno State University for students pursuing a degree
in city and regional planning.
“We are committed to strengthening the communities we build by
supporting many local organizations,” Brent McCaffrey said. “Through
donations, in-kind gifts, and volunteer work, we understand the power of
a community that cares.”
With three generations of family homebuilding and land development
experience, The McCaffrey Group has deep roots in California’s Central
Valley. More than 40 years ago, Bob and Karen McCaffrey joined her
father, John Bonadelle – a pioneer in the local homebuilding industry –
to build homes for families in the Central San Joaquin Valley.
“My father began building homes for veterans coming home from serving
in World War II,” said Karen McCaffrey, vice president of The McCaffrey
Group. “As a child, I remember walking the land with my father and
listening to his vision – it is an honor to continue the tradition of
building quality homes and desirable communities where families can
thrive.”
The tradition continues today with the addition of Bob and Karen’s
son and daughter, Brent and Lauren, as well as their son-in-law, Ash
Knowlton, and Liz McCaffrey, their daughter-in-law, to the company.
The McCaffrey Group has been honored with many of the building
industry’s highest awards, including induction into the California
Homebuilders Foundation Hall of Fame, as well as recognition form the
United State Environmental Protection Agency, the California State
Senate, the National Association of Home Builders, the California
Building Industry Association, and Builder magazine. In addition, they
recently received the 2018 Diamond Award from CVLUX magazine for giving
back to the community and the coveted 2018 Best Builder Award by CVLUX
readers.
“For us, it’s not about just building new communities and homes, it’s
about reinvestment in the area where we live and work,” Brent McCaffrey
said. “That’s why giving back to our community and being good stewards
of the land are at the core of what we do.”
